Invictus Games 2018: Nicki Fairbairn talks to Josie FitzGerald

November 14, 2018

Nicki Fairbairn talks to Aurecon’s Josie FitzGerald about overcoming physical and mental injury to compete in the 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney. Aurecon was proud to sponsor Nicki who has served in the New Zealand Defence Force. In 1988, Nicki was involved in a motorcycle crash which left her with a severe closed head injury, suspected paralysis down the right side of her body and a collapsed lung. Nicki re-learnt how to use the right-hand side of her body, but it has been on an on-going journey of recovery, with the major life-changing injuries the ones that can’t be seen. The Invictus Games bring together servicemen and women who “have been tested and challenged, but they have not been overcome”.
