Rebuilding Kaikoura - Kaikoura Earthquake Recovery Programme

Just after midnight on 14 November 2016, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand’s South Island, roughly 60km south-west of the coastal town of Kaikoura. The earthquake required an immediate engineering response to rebuild damaged infrastructure in order to reconnect isolated communities and improve and future-proof the road and rail network. In an industry first partnership, the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) and KiwiRail came together to form an alliance with four of New Zealand’s largest contractors to rebuild a community.
