Uplifting and enriching communities

November 26, 2015

The Great Brak River area in South Africa experienced an influx of homeless people who moved into the region to find employment and shelter. George Municipality initiated the informal settlements upgrade project that spanned over seven years. Its goal was simple — to enhance the lives of the people who lived in the area. The project included the incremental development of 4 350 formal residential sites with full, permanent municipal services. Also in the project plans were top structures on 10 land parcels, for identified households from the 22 current informal settlement areas. As Implementing Agent, Aurecon was responsible for all the multi-disciplinary professional services required to develop and construct fully serviced sites for qualifying beneficiaries.
