Unsealed road pavements: Why we need sustainable design

April 18, 2016
Local roads represent almost 80 per cent of all roads across Australia. In rural and regional Australia, these roads are key to successful export transit, are the connections between communities and ultimately promote community safety. Around 500,000 kilometres of these roads are unsealed. Aurecon’s pavements expert, Doctor Ian Van Wijk, explains how the sustainable design of unsealed roads can positively affect social, environmental and health factors, as well as ultimately support rural development.
